Following the announcement of a U.S. operation that killed al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, chair of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel and member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement:

"Ayman al-Zawahiri was one of the key plotters of 9/11. Thanks to President Biden, our intelligence community, and our military, we are one step closer to justice for those we lost during the 9/11 attacks, for their loved ones, and for the first responders who risked everything to protect innocent lives."
